Exploring Exciting Breakfast Options on the HCG 2.0 Diet
When it comes to the HCG 2.0 diet, breakfast options often revolve around staples like egg white and spinach omelets or whey protein shakes with frozen fruit. While these are nutritious choices, weekends call for something a bit more enticing!
Recently, I stumbled upon a healthy, low-carb breakfast article on Buzzfeed that caught my attention, prompting me to share it with my blog with the anticipation of sharing to my HCG 2.0 Diet and Recipes private Facebook page. Below are a couple of my personal favorites written by Laura M from the group. The ingredients are bit more exotic than their titles sounds. With that, I'll let Laura take it away!
Skillet Baked Eggs
At the top of my list is the skillet baked eggs. To make it more HCG 2.0 friendly, opt for egg whites only or substitute one egg with egg whites. Additionally, using Greek yogurt as suggested in the recipe is a great idea. While the recipe suggests drizzling butter over the eggs, I find it just adds unnecessary calories. The dish stands out perfectly fine without this step!
Breakfast Bell Peppers
Another favorite of mine is the Breakfast Bell Peppers. I prefer substituting ground turkey for chorizo or omitting it altogether. Since I typically make just one serving, I use one whole egg and one egg white. As for the cheese, I usually skip it, but the vibrant flavors of the pepper compensate for its absence. What's great about this recipe is its flexibility—it can be customized to suit individual preferences. For instance, when baking for the family, I include cheese in the kids' peppers while keeping it out of mine.
Weekend Treats and Beyond a la Laura M
It's important to note that most of these recipes are reserved for weekend indulgence for us HCG 2.0 followers. As seen above, some adjustments may be needed based on Dr. Z's teachings from his book, HCG 2.0 - Don't Starve, Eat Smart and Los; A Modern Adaptation of the Traditional HCG Diet. Nevertheless, this list offers a plethora of exciting options for weekend breakfasts or brunches, as well as inspiration for the maintenance phase of the HCG diet. With such delicious alternatives at hand, bidding farewell to traditional breakfast treats like donuts becomes a little easier!
