Ketosis Isn't a Trend. It's a Metabolic State. Trends Come and Go. Human Physiology Doesn't.
If You Want to Maintain Muscle Mass While Using GLP-1s, Eliminate Carbs.
One of the biggest mistakes I see among GLP-1 users is assuming the medication is doing all the heavy lifting. The truth is that Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro don't magically create healthy habits. They simply make it easier to eat less. What happens after that is largely determined by your food choices.
This is where ketosis remains incredibly relevant.
Whether you're following HCG 2.0, intermittent fasting, a GLP-1 protocol, or simply trying to lose body fat, the body's preferred method of burning stored fat hasn't changed. If you're constantly providing large amounts of dietary fuel from carbohydrates, your body has less reason to tap into its stored energy reserves.
That doesn't mean carbohydrates are bad. It simply means carbohydrates are primarily fuel. Protein builds and repairs tissue. Healthy fats support hormones, satiety, and cellular health.
Vegetables provide vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber.
"Vegetables fill you up. You can NEVER over-consume on vegetables. Learn to love them and you'll NEVER have to
Carbohydrates provide... energy. But you don't need the energy because you already have it stored up in the form of fat.
If your goal is fat loss, there is tremendous value in teaching the body to become more efficient at utilizing stored fat.
One reason many people eventually abandon healthy eating is that they're constantly hungry. A properly formulated ketogenic approach often produces the opposite effect.
Hunger becomes more manageable. Energy becomes more stable. Cravings become less intense.
That's one reason ketosis has remained relevant for decades, regardless of what happens to be fashionable in the nutrition industry.
The GLP-1 may help control how much you eat, but ketosis helps determine what fuel your body burns. One manages appetite. The other helps direct metabolism.
Today's recipe combines high-quality protein, healthy fats, fresh vegetables, and bold Mediterranean flavors while keeping carbohydrates extremely low.
Mediterranean Beef Lettuce Wraps
Ingredients
1½ lbs lean ground beef
1 tbsp olive oil
1 small red onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp basil
½ tsp cumin
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup diced cucumber
1 cup diced tomatoes
¼ cup crumbled feta cheese
Romaine or butter lettuce leaves
Optional squeeze of fresh lemon
Directions
Heat olive oil in a large skillet.
Add onion and garlic and sauté until fragrant.
Add ground beef and cook thoroughly.
Season with oregano, basil, cumin, salt, and pepper.
Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
Fill lettuce leaves with beef mixture.
Top with cucumber, tomato, feta cheese, and a squeeze of lemon.
Why This Works for GLP-1 Users
This recipe prioritizes:
High-quality protein for muscle preservation
Healthy fats for satiety
Fresh vegetables for nutrient density
Minimal carbohydrates to support ketosis
Strong flavor without relying on sugar or processed ingredients
Many GLP-1 users struggle to consume enough protein because their appetite is reduced. Meals like this help maximize nutrition without requiring large portions.

Family-Friendly Version GLP-1 Diet Meal Plan
For spouses, children, athletes, or active family members, simply add:
Roasted potatoes
Sweet potatoes
Brown rice
Whole-grain pita bread
This allows everyone to enjoy the same meal while adjusting carbohydrate intake based on individual goals.
The goal isn't to fear carbohydrates. The goal is understanding their role. If you're trying to burn body fat, reducing dietary fuel is the only way to induce ketosis. However, for kids, who are fueling sports, growth, or higher activity levels, strategic carbohydrate intake is necessary.
Tomorrow's GLP-1 diet meal plan recipe shifts from Mediterranean flavors to a simple comfort-food favorite that continues our focus on protein, satiety, ketosis, and long-term success after the pen is gone.
