With any reduction in calories from your normal routine, you’re going to experience some hunger. However, once the HCG starts working for you, which can take up to 5-7 days, your hunger will subside considerably. In fact, many HCG dieters have trouble eating the required 500-800 (depending on gender and BMR) calories, but this doesn’t happen right out of the gate.
What do I mean when I say, “once the HCG starts working for you?” That means the targeting and metabolization of stored fat. In Dr. Simeons original manuscript, Pounds and Inches; A New Approach to Obesity, he described the effect of HCG as the “unlocking” of stored fat that our body is pre-disposed to retain as an energy reserve for famine or long winters; conditions that existed thousands of years ago, but rarely exist today. This is why dieting is such an uphill battle… Not only are we struggling with our own poor eating habits, but a genetic predisposition to retain calories that has been ingrained in our DNA for thousands of years. According to Dr. Simeons‘ research, HCG will put anywhere form 1500-4500 calories per day into your blood stream – all coming from stored fat in a process called KETOSIS. These calories can be used by the dieter to literally sustain themselves on their own stored fat, resulting in rapid weight loss. However, as I said above, this doesn’t happen over night. Hunger usually peaks around days 5-7. I tell all my patients that if you make it through the first week, it gets tremendously easier. The good news is that the most exaggerated weight loss is seen in the first week to two weeks of the HCG diet. Most women lose a pound per day while men often lose two pounds per day in the first 10 days to two weeks. The weight loss begins to tail off during the later stages of the diet as you begin to acclimate to the HCG, rendering it less effective. As side note, this is why you only stay on the HCG diet for 30 to 40 days. Rather than increasing your dosage, we take you off for approximately the same duration you were on the diet and then you can begin again.
The bottom line – you’re going to experience hunger on any diet, whether it be Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Atkins Diet, Paleo Diet, Dukan Diet, etc., but none of these provide you the exaggerated weight loss of the HCG diet.
