Just because you’ve only recently heard about the HCG diet, doesn’t mean that it’s the next “fad” diet craze. In fact, the words “next” or “fad” don’t apply at all when talking about the HCG diet. The HCG diet was developed and perfected by Dr. A.T.W. Simeon all the way back in the 1940’s and made famous in his 1954 manuscript, Pounds and Inches; A New Approach to Obesity.
While doing humanitarian work in impoverished areas of India, Dr. Simeon observed that extremely malnourished women were capable of giving birth to healthy, full-weight babies. In studying this phenomenon, he found that HCG was responsible. As a species, our bodies are programmed to retain calories and store them away in our fat for long winters or famine – conditions that rarely exist today. In fact, our bodies actually become more efficient at storing away calories when we diet. The reason being is that our bodies presume a decrease in our caloric intake is the result of decreases in food sources. This is why dieting is such an uphill battle; not only are we fighting our own poor eating habits, but our own human physiology, as well.
However, when a woman becomes pregnant, this physiology gets flipped upside down. The mother’s placenta begins to produce HCG, with the sole purpose being to provide a 24/7 calorie source for the growing baby. In the absence of a pregnancy, this hormone can be supplemented in both men and woman to facilitate weight loss. The HCG taps into our unwanted fat stores allowing us to sustain ourselves on stored fat resulting in rapid weight loss. To read more about the HCG diet, CLICK HERE.
