Established in 1950 the diet revived in 70’s HCG diet is based on 500 calories a day. This diet is supplemented with either injection or HCG drops. The full form of HCG is hormone Human Choriogonadotropin which is found in urine during pregnancy. This hormone works in the body by mobilizing the fat to the baby growing. And this is the aspect that can play a pivotal role in weight loss. The HCG diet lets the body to access the accumulated fat in the body rapidly when compared to normal functioning of the body. Thus, the body fat is lost instead of burning the muscle.
Each meal must have one protein, one vegetable, one piece of bread and one fruit. Food items allowed in the diet are Broiled or grilled chicken breast, beef, veal, fresh white fish, crab, lobsters or fish. The choice of vegetables is spinach, chard, beet greens, chard, green salad, celery, tomatoes, onions, fennel, cucumbers, red radishes and cabbage. One piece of bread can be one bread stick or Melba toast. Fruits like orange, apple, few strawberries are allowed. Butter and oils are not allowed in this diet. Sugar substitutes are allowed but not sugar.
However, there is no scientific proof that this diet works and the weight loss likely occurs because of very low calorie diet. This fact is also proved by most of the independent studies by establishing the fact that there is no link between weight loss and the HCG injections and drops. As a matter of fact few studies have also reported that HCG diet followers have suffered from hunger pangs in the three –week’s course of the diet.
Because of these factors in recent times the diet has been updated that incorporates advanced research on low-carbohydrates, caloric ratios, dieting and even the basic food chemistry. With the invasion of new technology and research why one should stick to the traditional approach when new approach can yield realistic result? The HCG 2.0 thus came into existence with the aim to revolutionize its traditional approach and hence provides wider variety of allowed food options with increased portion size thereby increasing the nutritional values.
Because of the utilization of the current research to different topics like low-carb, high-protein diets and food statistics this diet is now safer, has more realistic approach to weight loss when compared to the traditional approach of this diet launched in 1950s. It can be said undoubtedly that HCG 2.0 can now be recommended whether the aim is to lose weight or eat healthy.
