Can I exercises on the HCG Diet?


You may have heard that exercise is not allowed on the HCG Diet. That’s partially true, but not entirely. My quick answer to my patients regarding exercise on the HCG diet is continue what your were doing before beginning the HCG diet. If you were doing 20 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of weight training prior to beginning your HCG diet protocol, then continue as such. If you weren’t exercising at all prior to beginning the HCG diet, then I wouldn’t recommend adding an exercise program while on HCG, especially during the first week. If, after the first week, you’re feeling good and energized try adding 15 to 20 minutes of walking. If you find yourself getting light headed or dizzy, take a break and drink some water. You can then resume if you feel better.

Why wait to add exercise until after the first week on the HCG diet?

Primarily because you’re border-line protein deprived on the HCG diet and it takes the HCG hormone up to a week to really begin working for you. According to Dr. Simeons‘ research, HCG will put  anywhere form 1500-4500 calories per day into your blood stream – all coming from stored fat in a process called KETOSIS. These calories can be used by the dieter to literally sustain themselves on their own stored fat, resulting in rapid weight loss. However, as I said above, this doesn’t happen over night. It can take up to 5-7 days, which is why new exercise is not recommended during the first week. I tell all my patients that if you make it through the first week, the HCG diet gets tremendously easier. The good news is that the most exaggerated weight loss is seen in the first week to two weeks of the HCG diet. Most women lose a pound per day while men often lose two pounds per day in the first 10 days to two weeks. The weight loss begins to tail off during the later stages of the diet as you begin to acclimate to the HCG, rendering it less effective. As side note, this is why you only stay on the HCG diet for 30 to 40 days. Rather than increasing your dosage, we take you off for approximately the same duration you were on the diet and then you can begin again.
